“CHiPs” star Erik Estrada recently expressed concerns about the dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) and its potential to harm individuals and society. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the 75-year-old actor and host of “Divine Renovation” acknowledged the positive aspects of AI but cautioned against its misuse.
Estrada emphasized the need to focus on the positive side of AI, using it to create goodwill, generate employment opportunities, and foster positive outcomes. However, he warned about the prevalence of deepfakes, which can deceive people by manipulating images, videos, and audio. Deepfakes have been used for scams, identity theft, propaganda dissemination, reputation damage, and election manipulation.
The actor highlighted the misuse of AI technology, citing instances where his likeness was used without consent to endorse products or create explicit content. Estrada expressed his disappointment, stating that such actions were not in line with Christian values and emphasized the potential harm caused by AI, including the destruction of lives.
While Estrada acknowledged that some individuals, like tech mogul Elon Musk, may use AI for positive purposes, he cautioned that others would exploit it for personal gain. Drawing from his experience as a former police officer and current member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) federal task force, Estrada revealed his ongoing efforts to combat deepfake scammers who have targeted him on social media.
In addition to his work in law enforcement, Estrada is known for his role in the hit ’70s show “CHiPs.” He also hosts the faith-based home improvement reality series “Divine Renovation,” which combines home improvement with a spiritual element. The show aims to help families in need by collaborating with nonprofits, houses of worship, local businesses, and neighbors.
The second season of “Divine Renovation,” hosted by Estrada, showcases heartwarming stories of community involvement and assistance. The episodes feature segments on service dogs for individuals with PTSD, renovations for shelters, and support for families with disabled children.
Reflecting on his own life, Estrada shared how his Christian faith helps him overcome challenges. He emphasized the importance of prayer and seeking guidance from God during difficult times.
The second season of “Divine Renovation” is currently available for streaming on various platforms, including Amazon Prime, Roku, and Tubi.
