Google Unveils Pixel 9 Series, Pixel Watch, and AI Innovations at ‘Made By Google’ Event

In a highly anticipated event titled “Made By Google,” tech giant Google made several significant hardware announcements, focusing on generative artificial intelligence (AI) and Google AI. The event showcased the new Pixel 9 series of phones, a foldable device called the Pixel Fold, an upgraded Pixel Watch, and the latest version of the Pixel Buds Pro.

One of the key highlights of the event was the emphasis on AI-powered experiences, which Google believes are crucial for the competitiveness of Android smartphones, especially with the looming presence of Apple Intelligence. The photography and video capabilities of the new Pixel 9 devices, particularly the “Add Me” feature, were highlighted as compelling AI-powered innovations that are expected to capture consumers’ attention.

The Pixel 9 series includes the Pixel 9 Pro and the larger Pixel 9 Pro XL. The Pixel 9 Pro is not a direct update to its predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro, but offers upgraded specifications in a similar-sized shell. Both devices feature the new Tensor G4 processor, which enables Gemini Nano with Multimodality, allowing the Pixel 9 Pro to understand text, images, and audio. They also come with 16GB of RAM and various storage options.

The Pixel Fold, previously in its early stages, has now become a fully-fledged part of the Pixel 9 Pro family. Its upgraded specifications, including a thinner design, a 4650 mAh battery, and the new Tensor G4 chip, make it a competitive contender in the foldable device market.

Google also introduced the Pixel Watch, the third iteration of its WearOS smartwatch. The larger 45mm Pixel Watch 3 features a rounded design with 16% smaller bezels, allowing for a larger display. It also integrates with Google Home, enabling users to view their Nest camera or video doorbell feed on the watch’s screen. Additionally, the Pixel Watch can function as a Google TV remote.

The new Pixel Buds Pro 2, Google’s professional-level earbuds, offer improved battery life, faster connection, and enhanced audio codecs. Notably, they incorporate Google’s suite of AI audio tools, including Clear Calling algorithms for clearer voice calls and conversation detection that automatically pauses music and activates transparency mode when the user speaks.

In other news, Samsung’s upcoming flagship model, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, has been leaked by notable leaker @IceUniverse. The significant change in design is the alteration of the corner design, which gives the phone a softer shape. However, the new Ultra still appears rectangular compared to the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Lastly, Chinese manufacturer Honor has launched the #HonorTheChallenge campaign, highlighting the benefits of its AI Eye Tracking technology for individuals with ALS. The campaign includes a short film produced by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, featuring artist and ALS challenger Bernard Muller, who uses eye-tracking technology to express himself through artwork.
