macOS Sequoia: Intel Mac Users to Receive One More Year of Support, But Miss Out on Apple Intelligence Features

Apple has announced that users of Intel-powered Macs will receive at least one more year of support for macOS. However, they will not have access to the Apple Intelligence features introduced in macOS Sequoia, which are exclusive to Apple Silicon-powered Macs.

Apple Intelligence, a set of generative artificial intelligence features, requires the M1 chip or later, meaning Intel users will not be able to benefit from this advancement. These features are expected to revolutionize the way users interact with their devices, including iPhones, Macs, and iPads.

Another limitation for Intel users is the live audio transcription feature in Apple Notes, which is only available on Apple Silicon machines. This feature allows users to record audio sessions within their notes and generate live transcriptions that can be searched through or combined with other comments, checklists, or documents.

Despite these limitations, the rest of the macOS Sequoia update is available to both Intel and Apple Silicon platforms. Notably, the flagship iPhone Mirroring feature, which enables users to view their iPhone screen on their Mac and control it using the keyboard and trackpad, is accessible to Intel users as well. However, certain requirements must be met, such as using a Mac with a T2 Security Chip and having the same Apple ID signed in on both devices.

The compatibility details for iPhone mirroring in macOS Sequoia state that the iPhone and Mac must be signed in with the same Apple ID using two-factor authentication, be in close proximity with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi turned on, and the Mac should not be using AirPlay or Sidecar.

While Intel users may miss out on some of the cutting-edge features, they can still enjoy the majority of the macOS Sequoia update. It remains to be seen which feature users are most excited to try.
